Rustam Zhuraev began to engage in sculpture in 2022, having many years of professional medical and scientific practice behind him. The formation of his interest in plastic arts was largely influenced by his acquaintance with Yaroslav Motyka in the Lviv Open-Air Museum.
The central place in Rustam Zhuraev’s creative practice is occupied by religious, sacred and historical themes, where the author resorts to the understanding of spiritual values, cultural memory, and the past.
“First Images” is the sculptor’s debut solo exhibition. Its idea goes back to the origins of human culture, to the times when the image was not only an artistic expression, but also a way to preserve memory, convey experience, and establish a connection with the sacred. Stone, as a material, existed long before the appearance of man, and, probably, will exist after him, it does not allow to completely impose a form on itself, and it is also important to take into account the texture, cracks, density…
In his work, Rustam Zhuraev addresses these fundamentals of artistic thinking.
