Mykola Matsenko “Post-war Garden”
The exhibition’s title alludes to the image of a “cherry orchard by the house”—a vision representing a dream of tranquility, prosperity, and an orderly future. This envisioned well-being takes on very specific contours: investments from the West and reparations from the East. At the same time, this vision of the future entails a long and arduous process—reconstruction, the search for a new balance, and the assertion of one’s place in a world undergoing profound transformation. In his works, Mykola Matsenko employs orderly, symmetrical structures. For the artist, this sense of organization serves as a means to confront chaos and an attempt to restore a degree of equilibrium in a world that is increasingly losing it.
