On September 26, the Strilciv5 gallery will host the opening of an exhibition that serves as the culmination of an artistic and anthropological study of Oriv, a village in the Ukrainian Precarpathian region.
The exhibition presents the results of the LEGIT creative residency, during which four artists from across Ukraine immersed themselves in the life and daily routines of the local community. Each artist forged a personal connection with the village, where local traditions, landscapes, and values intertwined with their own childhood memories and the heritage of their home regions.
Over the course of 20 days, the four artists experienced life in Oriv firsthand: they engaged with local residents and explored daily rituals, domestic life, traditions, and landscapes. A living dialogue with the local community formed the foundation for this collaborative artistic inquiry. We explored the village’s symbols, history, nature, and cultural heritage.
The exhibition invites viewers to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of a Ukrainian village—one that is simultaneously undergoing transformation and slowly fading away—and to engage with the challenges faced by its inhabitants. Through performance art, video and photographic works, and installations, we invite you to taste the village, hear its voice, and feel its texture.
