A short excursion into the culture of “grimaces”. This is a selection of mainly contemporary art with a dialogue in time and styles.
What is written on the face? Ecstasy, aggression, contempt, sarcasm, tension or irony?
Of course, what is a grimace without caricature, grotesque and irony? Always accurate in his observations, Honoré Daumier is presented with a selection of lithographs for the newspaper *Le Charivari*. Next to him is our classic Anatoly Vasylenko with caricatures from the pages of the magazine “Perets”. Andriy Sagaydakovsky with childish grimaces in front of the mirror, Yuriy Pikul in a self-portrait in the image of a home bodybuilder, Serhiy Radko with sculptural ceramic heads, Volodymyr Kostyrko with artistic quotes on European works of the past…
A grimace is a manifestation of the brightest human emotion. Is it proof of primacy or humanity?
